 Komiza is a village and a harbour situated on the western coast of the island of Vis in a deep bay. Komiza is located at the foot of the Hum hill (587 m). On the eastern coast of the bay there are large sandy and pebble beaches (Gusarica, Nova Posta, Velo Zalo).The settlement was first mentioned in the 12th century. In the 13th century, the Benedictines founded the monastery of St. Nicholas. The monastery complex with the church and the defense fortress (17th century) has been preserved.In the Fisherman’s museum of Komiža you can sea traditional wooden ships in which their forefathers went fishing on the broad seas. Museum is located in the so called Komuna, a Renaissance tower from 16th century.Komiža offers quality accomodation in hotels and apartments.
